It’s All In the Cards!

“UPD did a great job with this project for us. Right from understanding the complex brief, to ensuring the units were designed and produced to the right specs, there was a strong attention to detail. We are excited to roll out our Christmas campaign across stores this festive season, and would highly recommend UPD as the go-to for POS Displays”

Peter Gannon, Procurement and Seasons Logistics Manager, Hallmark

With the influx of digital communication, one might expect the greeting card industry to be obsolete. The reality is the industry is alive and booming. Australia is the third largest market for greeting cards per capita in the world. There is estimated to be over 27,000 retail outlets selling greeting cards in the country and in terms of shoppers, there are 22 cards purchased per person per annum.

The practice of sending greeting cards is dated back to Ancient China, who used to exchange messages of goodwill to celebrate special holidays. In continuation with that tradition, it was a busy few months at UPD HK with the preparations for Christmas, that began back in April! Just as the elves gear up for the festive season yearly, our hardworking team was briefed with the Hallmark Christmas Display project for 2019.

In order to accommodate for the high demand in greeting card purchases over the busy Christmas period, Unlimited Packaging & Display collaborated with the Hallmark team to first understand the requirements, which involved a total of three types of display units including:

Once we understood the brief, the next stage involved structurally designing the units that was done by Vault, our in-house design agency. In order to get the size and functionality right, we created prototypes for approval. Due to the smooth management process, the prototypes were approved, and the next stage involved print management. As experts in print and production, our team takes utmost care in terms of attention to detail of artwork, as well as colour management. Once the artwork was signed off, we had our Quality Control team oversee the production process by frequent visits to the factory right through to the shipping stage.

As some of the units involved an extra step of “pick and pack”, we were involved in coordination of the client’s products to be packed into the units and then shipped to a bonded warehouse, as nominated by Hallmark.
